3R's SWAP and more!

this month's SWAP (Stations With A Purpose) focused on reduce, reuse, recycling
and Dr. Minear's Senior Block students were in charge.
our first station was the Watershed Station. the students first listened to a book.

then they got to create watersheds. they first put paper in the bottom of the tray to represent the soil.
then they drew trees, flowers, birds, etc... on the aluminum foil that was laid on top.

then kool-aid was sprinkled on top to represent litter, trash, pollution, etc...

when it "rained," the students saw that it washed the litter into water supplies, it soaked into the ground, etc...

next, the students traveled to the sorting station.
here the students played a game where they were litter detectives and sorted the trash into the correct recycling bag.

our next station was The Lorax station.
the students watched a song from the movie...

and revisited the sequence of events in the book.

then they drew pictures of how they might make the earth healthier.

our final room was about nutrition and making healthy choices.

we were given healthy foods as a snack, as well!

we practiced writing 1's on the smartboard.
I printed out each child's sample to go in their portfolios.

and to end the day, Ms. Annie took everyone over to Tiger Stadium
to attend the UWA Women's Soccer Team clinic!
