yesterday's snapshot

what a great program we had!
thank you to all of the grandparents and parents who came to watch these awesome kids sing about Johnny Appleseed.
hope you picked up an apple on your way back because you really are the apple of their eye. :)

we learned about Johnny Appleseed and sang some fun songs about apples.

our nursing friends stopped by again.
this time we helped them sort healthy and non-healthy foods.

we are working on a new fall scrapbook page to add to our classroom scrapbook.

we added the healthy and non-healthy game to our centers.

the students played a smartboard game where they had to drag the squirrel to the barrel with the most apples.

we continued to learn about ants in the library.
we dicussed the queen, drone, and worker ants and then had to put them in order by size.

then they danced around the room to The Ants Go Marching.

tomorrow is green day and bring your dollar bills!

Wednesday's snapshot

well, as you can tell, it was Hat Day for the Book Fair.
before gymnastics, we practiced for our Grandparent's Day program.

we also fingerpainted Ff's.

here is a pic of the centipede Ms. Kim and I caught at school.
he visited the science center.

the Scholastic Book-Pharoah is still going on.
looks like we may win the contest to wrap Ms. Annie like a mummy!!!

we learned the parts of an ant (head, thorax, and abdomen)...

then we marched around the room singing The Ants Go Marching :)

and the students made raisin anthills in the library!

Tuesday's snapshot

what a busy day!
we squeezed in some practice while the UWA heroes stopped by to visit.

we watched a short video on ants...

and then read Thinking About Ants. We learned many interesting facts but focused on one in particular: queen ants shed their wings when they are establishing a new colony.

and we even had a live example of the queen shedding her wings!
our friend Case brought in a queen ant in a bowl.
she had shed her wings in the bowl!
what a great learning moment!

we also went outside to visit Ms. Kim's experiment from Monday. her class put different foods on a plate near an ant bed. we noticed that they we most attracted to a vanilla wafer which they had broken into small granules to carry back to the colony.

and here is the ant bed.

so Tuesday was our annual Hero Day for our Scholastic Book Fair.
students and staff were to dress as heroes or in red and white.

we had male and female athletes visit from every UWA sport.
we had 90 athletes total!!!
they read to us...

played in centers with us...

and sat with us at snack :)

we had a great turnout in the morning...

and even more in the afternoon!

thank you to each of you who took time out of your day to visit us.
it means more to our students than you will ever know.
you ARE their heroes!

Go Tigers!!!
