week of January 19, 2016 | snapshot

Since I left after the field trip Friday because I was still not well, we spent Tuesday morning learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I did not want us being out of school Monday to be just a day off. Dr. King was a passionate advocate for human kindness and the acceptance of others no matter their religion, political, or physical differences. I took this time to teach the students about him and what he stood for.

We watched the Martin Luther King, Jr. Story by LeVar Burton on Reading Rainbow.

The students were truly touched by his words and saddened at what happened to him.

We also made a class book about what we could do to make the world a better place.

We also made New Year's Resolutions!!!

We also added winter dress-up clothes and accessories. arranged the furniture cozily around an paper fireplace made with brick-patterned paper my students from last year colored. We stocked the kitchen with warm foods and the cookware needed to prepare them-such as plastic mugs, spoons, soup cans, bowls, and pots.
