this week's snapshot

Ms. Annie came to share her All About Me bag with us Monday morning :)

we have been studying the 5 senses this week.
Monday we learned about and discussed our sense of touch.
we read Clap Your Hands and had a lot of fun following along with the book!
"Full of reasons to get up and dance, Lorinda Bryan Cauley's popular picture book, now available in board book format, has been delighting children for nearly a decade. Little ones will jump at the chance to join this menagerie of zany animals and children as they stomp, wiggle, roar, and spin their way through the day, as the rhyming text reinforces important concepts."

then we had fun with our feely boxes.
I blindfolded the students and they were to guess what was in each bucket.
there was a cotton ball, a seashell, a pine cone, plastic grapes, and a plastic centipede.

Tuesday, we learned about and discussed our sense of sight. we learned that people who cannot see are called blind. we learned about the different parts of the eye and their jobs.

we played a fun game Wednesday after learning about and discussing our sense of hearing.
one student was blindfolded and had to identify which student made a sound.
it was lots of fun.

on Thursday, we learned about and discussed our sense of smell.
I had lots of fun getting them to guess smells!
(apple, garlic, onion, lemon, orange, cherry blossom hand soap)

you can probably tell from the following pictures there was onion in this cup!!!

Friday, the students brought in their All About Me bags.
we learned new things about each one of our friends!

I couldn't resist playing with Grayson's cool laser machine ;)

all week during Shared reading, we have read School Days using only pictures, read the words, made predictions, retold with sequence of events, and summarized the story in one sentence.today, the students illustrated one page and created their own version of School Days. they did great!
"Rhyming text and illustrations describe the familiar faces and objects of a day at school."

we also had Chinese lessons with Mr. Bowen today while I went around and painted tiger paws on the students before we went to see LUie.

we have been reviewing letters and sounds E-H this week. we always brainstorm words beforehand.
