Science Lab

In science today we talked about different buildings we have around town and what people work in those buildings.  Ms. Annie talked about the history of our building at the Campus School.  We learned that it was once an armory and a place where people voted.  We then took a walk around school and drew a picture of the outside of the school, our favorite room in the school,  a new room that has been added, and our favorite picture that has been painting recently in our renovated library! We learned so many things about our building, and we are excited to see what it will look like in the next few weeks when the murals and construction are done! The director's cousin is painting murals all around the school and I cannot wait to share the finished projects with you!

Here's a few pics of our newly decorated school library:

a cat in the hat kind of day!

We made a Cat in the Hat inspired snack this afternoon. It was super simple! All you need is a pack of oreos (twist them apart and use the side with the icing for the bottom of the hat), red lifesavers (gummy or hard, your choice), and white icing. This recipe was found here.

We also worked on our March/Read Across America bulletin board. Here's a little sneak peek...

In case you wanted to play along with your child, Clap the Missing Word:

We chose familiar songs with a repetitive word. We left out one word and clapped when we were supposed to say the word. For example,

The farmer in the (clap),
The farmer in the (clap),
Hi-ho, the derry-o, the farmer in the (clap)...

a truffula kind of day!

Today was all about truffula trees! One of our activities this afternoon was truffula tree patterning. This came from a free unit that you can find here at 2 Teaching Mommies' blog.

The other truffula tree inspiration today was our truffula tree snack seen on Pinterest. You will need large marshmallows, white icing, colored sprinkles, and skewers or popsicle sticks. First step- stick your stick into the marshmallow.

Second step, smear icing on top of the marshmallow. Step 3, dip your marshmallow into your sprinkles.

Step 4- Admire, eat and enjoy!

I also introduced 2 new centers. The first center is a magnetic alphabet center. This idea came from
The Moffatt Girls' blog...and it was free!

The second center, a fine motor center, came from Mrs. Karen's Class' blog. All you need is a spoon, a plastic bottle, and some marbles!

today's snapshot

We started our buildings investigation today: what do we know about buildings and what do we want to find out.

We learned a new game called "Step Up" where each student steps up to the board and circles a specific letter. Today we learned our Rr song so we found and circled Rr's.

And afternoon learning centers was all about creating buildings with different types of blocks.
