Did you know Old MacDonald had a band?!

He sure did! And in this band he had jingle bells

and maracas

and a triangle

and a tambourine

and a drum

and cymbals!

E-I-E-I-O!

Today we played Jack in the Box (following directions) and discussed and sang our school rules.
  1. Be nice.
  2. Share, take turns, listen.
  3. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
  4. Walk.
  5. Use the correct voice.
Ask your child to sing the Boogie Woogie School Rules song to you today!

We also watched the eBook A World of Families and put our own twist on Old MacDonald. Instead of writing in our journals today, we painted.

sensory tub

We created a new sensory tub this month. I love shades of blue in the winter so we used them in the tub. It had aquarium rocks, marbles, letter beads, wooden letters, and wooden shapes.
Stay tuned for next month's tub! I "love" it! :)

Today we discussed rules and why they are so important. We used Mary Had a Little Lamb in our discussion and played Simon Says. Our writing journal prompt was about the importance of the rule we have at school about washing our hands and when.

Gingerbread Man Sort

We played the Gingerbread Man Sort game in one of our learning centers this afternoon. The template came from Making Learning Fun's site. Check them out! The students had to match the icing on the cookie to the corresponding plate.

We also did a Number 1 Recognition Sheet. I put my own twist to the sheet found at School Sparks website. They have lots of great ideas! The students used a bingo dot marker and marked all the number 1's they could find.

Today we recited Little Miss Muffet and discussed what being frightened means. Our question of the day was "Have you ever been scared?" I introduced Daily Journals to the students today. I wrote their answer to the Question of the Day and they drew a picture that related.

They will begin writing and drawing daily in these journals. We reread The Kissing Hand and acted out Strolling Through the Park.

I also reintroduced the Cozy Chair. This is an area where the students can sit quietly when they are sad, scared, frustrated, etc... It has a blanket, pillows, Max the bear, books, and stuffed animals for their use. They may go to this area anytime they feel they need a break.

We had a visit from UWA's Chinese students this morning. They taught us it was the year of the dragon and helped us decorate dragons to take home. We enjoy our time with them!

We got to eat some yummy fortune cookies, too!

Number Fun

We played another game Dr. Minear gave us today during afternoon learning centers. Students had to draw a card and count the objects, then move their marker the corresponding amount of spaces.
