It's a tye-dyed world!

So...Mrs. Annie was brave enough to do tye-dying with 47 students today during science lab. Luckily she had some parent volunteers, so it went smoothly. All the students had a blast! We will be wearing our shirts on an upcoming game day.

This is the book Mrs. Annie read to each class before starting the instructions and process. Great book about emotions!
And here are the supplies needed for such an event.

A REAL Presentation on Clothes

If you do not know Dr. Archie Hooper, not only are you missing out on the entertainment but also not knowing an awesome person. He is a doctor in our town (my family's doctor), a great friend, and also a parent at our school. He has one of the most unique senses of style. So who should we get to discuss fashion our last week of clothing??? Who else! And it was a treat! He brought along various colors, styles, and patterns of pants from his closet and we had a blast! And yes...to answer your question...he does dress like this on a daily basis. Our small town celebrity, if you must. :)

A sunny day.

Today was yellow day!
We painted with lemon halves and yellow paint!

First P-3 Assessment

P 3 Evaluation

Letters, numbers, and shapes, oh my!

Winding up a busy week!!! This week our ME web consisted of numbers (uses, sources, and tools), shapes (names and where we have seen them before), and cleanliness (character), as you can see below.

Today we counted the number of letters in our first names and then graphed them.

Shapes Numbers Letters

Shape Sort

We are ending up the day in learning centers and I wanted to share an easy, DIY sorting center. I used generic Ziploc containers with lids and foam shapes. I chose red triangles, green circles, blue hearts, and orange squares. Hot or super glue one shape on the outside of each container and voila! An easy sorting center ready to go! I finished up all assessing today, except for one student who was not here. As soon as I can figure out, or my neighbor teacher Kaley figures out, how to post documents on our blogs, I will post examples. If anyone reading this has any advice, it is welcomed. ;-) We also weighed this week for our beginning of the year weights. I hope all have a great weekend and see you Monday!!!!

All aboard the Shape Train! Woo Woo!!!

We created Shape Trains this afternoon using rectangles, circles, triangles, and squares. Check them out!

Family Time Homework

Next week we will wrap up our clothing unit with colors week. We will also have a very special visitor Wednesday morning. This weekend, find 3 pictures of things that are your child's favorite color and bring them to school Monday. :)

Also, in your cubby I have sent home a piece of cardstock. Please use the piece of cardstock to make and "All About Me" scrapbook page. You can do whatever you like to make it unique as long as it fits on the piece of cardstock. I will use the scrapbook pages to create a classmate book that each child may take home one night to share with the family. The scrapbook page is due next Friday, Sept. 2. :)

Next week is Colors Week!!!

Monday- wear green!
Tuesday- wear blue!
Wednesday- wear yellow!
Thursday- wear red! (UWA Tigers season opener)
Friday- wear your favorite school's colors!

What does the tag in the back of my shirt say?

We have been talking about clothing all month. And letters today. So, we wondered "Why are those scratchy tags in our shirts anyway?" We found out that they tell us the size of our shirt, what our shirt is made of, and how we should wash our shirt. Here are our graphs!

Letters

Today we discussed letters, how they make up words, the first letter of our first name, etc... Family Time Homework was to bring in three pictures of things that begin with the first letter of your first name. I had already cut out large letters, so we created a letter collage together.

Numbers and Shapes

This week is all about numbers, shapes, letters, and clothing. Yesterday we discovered numbers (sources, tools, and uses). We created collages with our favorite number.
Today we brainstormed the names of shapes and where we have seen those shapes before.

Then we created a collage of our favorite shape.

After nap, we created more art with sponges of all shapes and with all colors!
