today's snapshot

today we fingerpainted Cc's!

dance and gymnastics lessons began for the school year today.
we are very fortunate to have the outstanding Carol Merrill Academy of Dance with us again this year!

who doesn't love a tea party?!

we read Peeny Butter Fudge today. it's my favorite out of the unit that we are on.

it includes the recipe for peeny butter fudge in the back of the book but since we have a severe peanut allergy in our school, we cannot make it in our room. but you can always make it with your child at home! :D

"There is no one like Nana in the whole wide world. She is the best. Nana knows how to take an ordinary afternoon and make it extra special! Nap time, story time, and playtime are transformed by fairies, dragons, dancing, and pretending -- and then mixing and fixing yummy, yummy fudge just like Nana and Mommy did not so many years ago.... "

each day after lunch, the students lie on their cots and listen as I read from a chapter book. we have been reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle since school began and we finished it today. Beverly Cleary is such a timeless author.

"Ralph is not like other mice. He is always looking for a new adventure. When a young guest arrives with a shiny miniature motorcycle, Ralph knows that it is his lucky day. He takes it out for a spin and roars off on a series of exciting and dangerous adventures."

yesterday in the library, the students listened to Make Way For Ducklings.

"It's not easy for duck parents to find a safe place to bring up their ducklings, but during a rest stop in Boston's Public Garden, Mr. and Mrs. Mallard think they just might have found the perfect spot--no foxes or turtles in sight, plenty of peanuts from pleasant passers-by, and the benevolent instincts of a kindly police officer to boot."

then the students made a family quilt. each person in their family represented a square.

every Tuesday, our class will visit our new Room of Discovery (ROD).

Ms. Annie will have the room set up according to the theme we are studying.
Yesterday, they read Chrysanthemums and talked about each others names and met our new GA Mr. Bowen and talked about his name. We then wrote our names on a cup, and we drew pictures of our faces on them. We planted grass seeds in the cups, and when they grow it will look like our hair! We watered them and placed them in the window to get sun. We will have to remember to water them each day so our hair will grow!
