this week so far

Friday afternoon members of the UWA Volleyball team stopped by to teach our students how to play volleyball.

we also had our cookie party for selling the most cookies in our fundraiser. we sampled the strawberry shortcake and butter sugar cookies. yummy!
(you'll notice there's a party crasher, but we <3 her!!!!)

Monday we started writing #4's

and we also started making maracas for our early Cinco de Mayo fiesta party this Friday.

today we discussed where we thought our garbage went after we throw it away. we read Sam Helps Recycle and viewed pictures of landfills.

"Sam the family dog is eager to help with the recycling, but he's worried when he spies his beloved food bowl perched a top the pile."

We also watched Where Does the Garbage Go? on YouTube.

"A fun but informative look at household waste disposal geared toward elementary age children. This short takes kids from garbage generated to recycling, waste to energy disposal, and landfilling in Layton, Utah."

our question of the day:
where does the garbage go?
landfill

dumpster

landfill

recycling bin

landfill

recycling bin

trash can

we also read Dumpster Diver
"Anyone can dive for treasure in the ocean, but Steve dives for it in his neighborhood dumpster! As he delves into the trash each weekend, Steve encourages his young neighbors (aka the Diving Team) to see the potential in what other people throw away. With a little bit of imagination, trash can be transformed into treasure — and as the Diving Team soon discovers, it might even help a friend in need."

Dr. Satcher's class stopped by one last time and made an obstacle course for us on the front lawn. We have enjoyed playing with them!

today we finished our maracas by adding dried pinto beans. now the cups will be hot glued together just in time for our fiesta Friday :)

meet our new friend, Grayson! we are so happy he's here!

we also fingerpainted 4's

and worked on our scissor and gluing skills and number order by completing this fun free Lorax puzzle!
and in keeping with our recycling unit, the pieces are glued on to magazine pages instead of construction paper :D
