UWA Annual Early Childhood Conference

The CS teachers had the awesome opportunity to attend the UWA Early Childhood Conference today. Ms. Kim and I attended the morning session with Cathy Valentino. If you have not had the experience of listening to Ms. Valentino, you are really missing out! Not only is she funny and captivating but is full of so many wonderful ideas I could have listened for days. To tell you a little about the conference...It's focus is on creating hands-on opportunities that encourage the development and use of scientific processes so that students can better understand their environments with the use of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.)

Cathy Valentino has been the Author-in-Residence for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt since 1999. She is the Curriculum Advisor and Staff Development Trainer for SMILE (Science and Math Integrated Learning Experiences) which is a science and math outreach program for disadvantaged and minority students grades 4-12 at the University of Rhode Island. She is also the author, inventor, and program designer of the Invention Convention, which we hope to be attending soon.
