WORM DAY!

Mr. Bowen taught us a few Chinese words this morning: Hi, Thank You, and Mama (which sounds the same!)

and Mr. Teddy and Mr. Simon played some gross motor games with us this morning, too!

today was Worm Day at the Campus School.
so besides learning about worms and touching worms, we decided to EAT worms!
jell-o worms, that is!

the students had a lot of fun mixing up the ingredients!

here is the before:

and here is the after:

the bendy part of the straw really finished off the worm look!
click {here} for the recipe :)

we let the students experiment first to see how to get the jell-o out of the straw.
(hint: squeeze from the bottom and run your fingers up the straw. the worm will slide right out.)

then it was time to get dirty!
the students had a blast feeling and discovering the worms (purchased a tub of bait worms)!

here's a short video of the students exploring the worm tray :)

we also watched a video about a kid who loves trash. he also has his own worm farm and studies how the worms decompose organic waste. he's very inspiring!

we also watched Diary of a Worm on YouTube...

"This is the diary . of a worm. This worm lives with his parents, plays with his friends, and even goes to school. But unlike you or me, he never has to take a bath, he gets to eat his homework, and because he doesn't have legs, he just can't do the hokey pokey – no matter how hard he tries."

and we also read
"Worm makes a surprising discovery—teachers have birthdays! That means Worm and his friends have to find the perfect present for their teacher, Mrs. Mulch."

during limited students the students observed a live worm, drew the worm, and described the worm.

they also explored the worms and observed them with magnifying glasses...

and had free draw time to draw about their day.
