today's snapshot

this morning we read Quinito, Day and Night.

"From dawn till dusk, Quinito’s life is full of opposites. In the morning, he’s up and running — fast or slowly, depending on the day. If it’s sunny, he’s off to the park to swing high and low. If it’s a rainy, stay-at-home day, Quinito’s quiet at naptime and noisy at playtime. So much to do before the sun sets!"

we compared Quinito's daily schedule to our daily schedule and found that they were very similar!

we also fingerpainted the letter Aa...

I told the students that I took the same kind of egg as yesterday and boiled on top of the stove.
I asked them to predict if the egg would crack the same as yesterday or if it would be different.

it cracked but something happened to the inside of the egg!

I showed the students how to peel a boiled egg and they were amazed that the inside was the same shape!

once I broke the cooked egg open so they could see the difference from yesterday, they all began to recognize it was something that they like to eat!

we also revisited Anansi and His Children and talked about how interesting his children's names were. like Humpty Dumpty! this afternoon, the students drew their family portraits :)

the also went to the August sensory tub, to the magnetic alphabet center...

and the smartboard.

don't forget homework is due by Friday :)))

* the scrapbook page, completed.
* a family picture to keep in the classroom.
* an example of environmental print for our Word Wall beginning with the letter Aa. Environmental print is the print on road signs, restaurants, cereal boxes, and other places in the environment. The word "stop" on a stop sign or the name "McDonald's" on the sign for the fast food restaurant. Environmental print is the first introduction most children have to reading. Have a letter Aa hunt around your house with your child and see what you might find to bring J
