our morning meeting story:
"On St. Parick's Day, come dance a jig with the students in the classroom ALA Booklist calls "a lively place. Today in Mrs. Madoff's class we all wore something green to school. Kate played the fiddle and we danced to Irish music. Then we learned about St. Patrick and many Irish tales and traditions. Now we know why there are no snakes in Ireland. Not every-one in school is all Irish like me, but we all can celebrate St. Patrick's Day together!"
we practiced writing our letters in our shamrock salt tray.
our tree story today:
we played "I'm a Sturdy Oak Tree" and swayed in the wind.
and a bushy gray squirrel searching for some nuts...
and a wise old spotted owl hooting for some lunch...
and a busy bee buzzing around the hive...
and a slithering slimy snake hanging on a branch.
then we played "We Like Clapping"
and rolling...
and sitting.
question of the day:
Does this animal live in a tree?
we made a leprechaun pie at snack today!
ingredients: graham cracker pie shells, pistachio pudding, green marshmallows, and spring Oreos
each student filled their own pie shell with the pudding...
then added some green marshmallows...
and 1/2 of a spring Oreo for a gold coin.
this afternoon we painted a picture of something that lives in a tree
and played with animal puppets
and enjoyed the last day for our St. Patrick's Day sensory tub :(
oh and wait! we also made a leprechaun trap! we try and try every year to catch that sneaky little green guy but we never can do it. we are feeling pretty good about it this year, though. we made signs for our trap that said "come here"
"leprechaun"
"not a trap"
"gold" and "free candy"
and then we got busy designing our trap. we found out that propping it up with scissors was too short. then we moved on to our connectors. the first stick we chose was too long so we chose a shorter stick. perfect!
then we decided to add some bait. we added green and gold necklaces, gold coins, and Hershey nugget candies.
then we added our signs to the trap.
yep. we are feeling pretty good about catching that trickster this year!
stay tuned...
