Thursday and Friday's snapshot

we started the morning by learning the correct formation of #6.

in large group we discussed how food garbage decomposes, composting bins, and how after food garbage decomposes it becomes soil.

we then watched a time lapse video of watermelon rotting to help students better understand decomposing.
click below to watch a watermelon decompose. :D

Friday, the students practiced #6 on the smartboard. each sample was printed for portfolios.

the students also went to the Room of Discovery or ROD with Ms. Annie.
they went over the proportion guides for what a healthy plate of food should look like. they discussed examples of each food group, and then the students cut out healthy foods from magazines and categorized them into the appropriate food group bags. these magazine cut-outs will be used during their activities for SWAP on Tuesday.

we enjoyed the beautiful weather both Thursday and Friday afternoon.
Ms. Brooke and I always enjoy facepainting.
check out these masterpieces ;)

Tuesday's snapshot

we continued with our jack-o-lantern glyphs from yesterday for the students who were not here.

we also played a fall roll and cover game for numbers 1-6.
they students rolled the die, told me the number they rolled, and used a bingo dot marker to mark that number on their game board.

we are enjoying Mr. Nathaniel, our PE major. he's always very hands-on with the students and they love it!

we walked up to the music room and played echo drumming with Ms. Poole's homemade drums :)

we echoed patterns, made galloping and rain sounds, and then each student chose a song to sing and we played along with our drums.

we will be experimenting with different soaps this week because our focus question is How do we take care of our clothes.

we added to our web:

question of the day:

in the Room of Discovery, ROD, with Ms. Annie the students read Family Huddle by Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning, and discussed how sports players wear jerseys. They talked about all the sports that we have on the UWA campus, and Ms. Annie showed them all a golf ball, tennis ball, basketball, football, soccer ball, volleyball, softball and baseball. Then each student got to pick which ball went with the coordinating jersey. It was tricky, but they figured it out! To wrap up the lesson all the students got to finger paint a number and their last name on paper cut out to look like a jersey. These will be displayed in the ROD room.
