Monday's snapshot

we began our morning practicing the correct formation of the letter Vv.

we learned to play a new game using environmental print, I have ---. Who has ---.
I started us off with Applebees, saying Who has Applebees?
the person holding the Applebees card says, I have Applebees. who has M&M's?
and the game keeps going. also great game to put focus on using complete sentences.

I used Half a Day in PreK's environmental print book which you can find {here}!

we also read The Pot That Juan Built today.
"Quezada creates stunning pots in the traditional style of the Casas Grandes people, including using human hair to make brushes and cow dung to feed the fire. This real-life story is written in the form of "The House That Jack Built," and relays how Juan’s pioneering work has changed a poor village into a prosperous community of world-class artists."

I'm sure you can imagine how funny it was for the students to learn what manure is :D

we also played an environmental print matching game. I found this game on kindergarten kindergarten's blog. easy to do- print out two copies of her printable, cut into cards, and laminate.

we also constructed towers using linking cubes...

put together some Valentine puzzles...

and wrote in our journals.

yesterday and today's snapshot

yesterday morning, we learned how to write Ee the correct way.

<insert picture of Kielei I forgot to take :( >

Addison's daddy just got home from Turkey and Addison got to pass out spinning tops to her classmates.
thanks for thinking of us, Mr. John!

our question of the day:

we compared neighborhoods and schools after watching the eBook Neighborhood Songs.

in the library, the students listened to Fredrick.
"While the other field mice work to gather grain and nuts for winter, Frederick sits on a sunny rock by himself. “I gather sun rays for the cold dark winter days,” he tells them. Another day he gathers “colors,” and then “words.” And when the food runs out, it is Frederick, the dreamer and poet, whose endless store of supplies warms the hearts of his fellow mice, and feeds their spirits during the darkest winter days. "

then they made prints in fall colors using apples and bell peppers.
fall begins Sunday, September 22 :)

this morning the students practiced writing Ee's on the whiteboard.

the question of the day:
can you make a triangle with your hands?

we had our last read aloud for The Gingerbread Man. afterwards, we decided to change the ending. we thought about what the Gingerbread Man could have done if the sneaky fox hadn't eaten him.

this afternoon in limited centers, we made shapes on our geoboards...

started making books...

and made paper doll families.

here's a picture of our Dd environmental print. it's not too late if you haven't turned yours in.

reminders:
* an example of environmental print for our Word Wall beginning with the letter Ee. Environmental print is the print on road signs, restaurants, cereal boxes, and other places in the environment. The word “stop” on a stop sign or the name “McDonald’s” on the sign for the fast food restaurant. Environmental print is the first introduction most children have to reading. Have a letter Ee hunt around the house or grocery store or riding down the road with your child and see what you find! J
* if you would like to come and do a cooking activity with us this week, we would love to have you! just let me know what you would like to cook with the students and what time works best for you. just remember, no peanut products allowed. J
