yesterday's post

we started the morning off by making an X out of play-doh.

then we had our Spring SWAP (stations with a purpose). Dr. Minear's undergraduate class was in charge this time. Our first station we me Gregory the Tree. The students listened to A Grand Old Tree and made a tree using construction paper, toilet paper tube, sand, and Easter grass.
"THE GIVING TREE for our time. Once there was a grand old tree, whose roots sank deep into the earth and whose arms reached high into the sky. Every spring the grand old tree flowered and bore cherries for the squirrels and birds that made their homes in her leafy branches. And every year, seeds from the tree scattered in the wind, along with many millions of leaves. Mary Newell DePalma creates an emotional tale of life and renewal, of nature's bounty and quiet balance, illustrated with simple images made powerful with vivid colors and moving compositions."

At our next station, the students reviewed things that might be seen during Spring. Then we went outside a looked for signs of Spring :)

then the students drew what they saw in a journal.
our next station was all about apples! the students played an apple tree addition game. they had to throw 2 beanbags and add the points together.

if the beanbag landed in the green leaves it was 3 pts.
if it landed on the brown trunk it was 2 pts.
and if it landed outside it was 1 pt.

the students recorded their answers on a score sheet. "I scored ___ points. ___+___=___"
the students also had to "plant some seeds to grow a tree."
they had to glue seeds on an apple and count the number of seeds.
then they recorded it on their paper.
"It took ___ seeds to grow _______'s apple tree."

then the students listened to I Am a Leaf.

Our final station was the snack station!
The students made a coconut tree using banana slices, apple slices, and grapes.

and listened to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom while they ate :)

the students then played a game. they had to choose a letter on the alphabet rug. when their letter came around on the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom video, they had to squat and jump up.

after SWAP, we did our question of the day:
does this food grow on trees? (grapes)

and we watched Abiyoyo on YouTube.

in afternoon centers, we played an egg number match game that you can find {here}

and matched egg patterns

and wrote in our journals: Draw a food we get from trees.

and look what Kaitlyn G. brought me today! look's like someone knows what I like ;)
