pumpkin glyphs

This morning we created pumpkin glyphs. A great following directions activity. And they rocked it! The idea came from...well...I can't remember. But as soon as I do, I will give credit where credit is due. Anywho, here are the directions:

Step 1: draw the number of stripes=to the number of letters in your first name

Step 2: make the pumpkins eyes the color of your eyes

Step 3: if you are a boy, draw a triangle for a nose. if you are a girl, draw a circle for a nose.

Step 4: draw a mouth with the same amount of teeth that you have lost. since they are only 3, these pumpkins had no teeth. :D

Step 5: color the stem your favorite color.

Pumpkins

pumpkin masks

Yesterday after we rested up from our Pumpkin Patch trip we created pumpkin masks. I got this idea from Muffin Tin Mom. I cut out the inside circle of a paper plate and let the students paint the plates orange.

Then, during nap today, an assistant hot glued 1/2 of a toilet paper tube (stem) and a leaf to the top. And then a popsicle stick to the bottom for a handle.

Today we compared and contrasted pumpkins and apples. These kids are smart!

This morning we made our own pumpkin pies (in bowls) for our afternoon snack. This idea came from Teaching Heart's blog so stop by there and check them out soon!

Step 1:
crush up graham crackers or teddy grahams as your crust

Step 2:
add one snack size container of vanilla pudding

Step 3:
add 2 T. of canned pumpkin pie puree and stir

Step 4:
sprinkle on some candy corn

 Step 5:
gobble, gobble it up!

Pumpkin Patch 2011

We had a FANTABULOUS time today at the Poole's Farm! We started the day with a picture opp and listening to directions from Ms. Poole.

Next, Mr. Knox took us on a hayride where we looked for spooky jack-o-lanterns, skeletons, and ghosts around the haybales.

Then we found the pumpkin patch and got to choose our very own pumpkins to take home!

Then we went through the "enchanted forest" and headed back to the house for some snacks, fun, and games.

We listened to Ms. Sara tell us about plants that we get from our land. Such as cotton...

and bell peppers...

and sweet potatoes...

and corn...

and collard greens.

Then we had a yummy snack that we helped make!

Next came the games! We dug for bones...

went ghost bowling...

and painted leaves.

We said our goodbyes and thanked Ms. Jannice, Mr. Knox, Ms. Sara, and Ms. Lolita for all the fun we had!
