We started the morning off dicussing the election, the nominees, etc... Ms. Annie read a story to each class, Amelia Bedelia's First Vote and Ms. Jaysa read So You Think You Want to Be President?
This morning we practiced writing Jj's on the smartboard...
and the students are LOVING our new no-ends!
These two UWA Softball girls were lots of fun today!
the number 4!
The students chose a ball from our classroom collection...
then each student decribed their ball...
and contrasted in pairs.
Our question of the day:
I had a gumball for them to compare their ball to.
We also discussed how letters are made from straight lines (L), curved lines (B), and diagonal lines (A). I used masking tape to put a line on my floor that had sections that were straight, curved, and diagonal. Then the students had to Walk the Line. :)
This afternoon we held our own 2012 Election.
What is the most important decision in a young child's life? Candy, of course! Here is a little about our two nominees, M&Ms and Skittles.
M&Ms is 71 years old and was born in Newark, New Jersey. These colorful button-shaped candies have a variety of fillings including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, crisped rice, peanuts, almonds, and more. M&Ms is named after Forrest Mars, Sr. , the founder of Mars Co., and Bruce Murrie, the son of Hershey Chocolate's president.
M&Ms campaign slogan-> "Melts in your mouth, not in your hand."
Skittles is 38 years old and is British. These colorful candies have several varieties including original fruit, tropical, and wild berry. Skittles campaign slogan -> "Taste the rainbow." It was projected that Skittles is the most popular candy among youth.
(A special thank you to Wikipedia for the information collected on our nominees.)
Students had the opportunity to privately mark their ballot for the 2012 Candy Election...
recieve an "I voted!" sticker...
and place their ballots in the "Vote" box.
Tension was high as each vote was tallied.
And the winner of the 2012 Candy Election is...
