We continued our community helper study last week.
On Tuesday, we talked about what community helper helps us stay safe, police officers. 

This is what we know:

On Wednesday, we talked about bakers.

And then it wouldn't be any fun without looking like a baker!

On Thursday, we talked about mail carriers and why their jobs are very important.

Friday was the 14th anniversary of 9/11. We revisited our discussion on communities. I talked to the students about 9/11 as a time in our country when communities had to come together and help each other. We thought of times we or a member of our families got help from our community. And how we said thank you.

We watched September 11: Explanation and Heroes. We talked about what we saw, what we felt, and the community helpers we saw along the way. 

Then we sat in a “Thank You Circle.” and we retold an experience when we were helped and how we said thank you (or how we gave help and someone else thanked us).

We had lots of fun playing Community Helper Bingo all week, too!

We worked on making AB patterns all week in math.

limited centers this week:

blocks- build a police station, bakery, a post office, or a community

discovery- crime solver kit

we made badges to go in the dramatic play center

dramatic play- bakery, police station, or post office

writing- cut pictures out of magazines to make menus for the bakery

I had a wonderful, early birthday celebration Friday with all my favorite people.

They make my life brighter.

Last week was all about neighborhoods and communities!

We learned that everyone is a community helper in our community. We discussed the helper jobs in the classroom and I asked each student to decide what one thing they were willing to do for the common good of the classroom. They then wrote it on their handprint, and cut out, and we made a poster to remind us all of the jobs we can do to make the classroom run smoother.

Then we discussed ways to improve our neighborhoods. (like build a park, more sidewalks for bike riding, pick up trash, etc...) What is something YOU can help do?

Continuing with our discussion on responsibilities, the students watched Strega Nona. They were to watch for the kind of work people do and how they do their work. We are learning that every member of a community has a responsibility and our classroom is our community a majority of our time. :)

Then we read What Does the X-ray Say?

And we made our own x-rays!

And then we watched The Berenstain Bears Go to the Doctor

In math, our shape of the week was rectangle. And we focused on more than, less than, and equal to this week.

block center- I added wooden emergency cars and traffic signs and the students built a neighborhood

dramatic play- the students loved role playing pediatrician with props 

discovery- fall sensory tub

literacy- - letter Gg spotting in Big Books

literacy- shaving cream writing

math- Bob the Builder Memory Game

Listening Center- Giraffes Can’t Dance

Friday was College Colors Day so we got to see LUie and get our picture made!

Book Fair set up and take down- set up the book fair one day before the event begins/ take down at least one day before it is scheduled to be picked up

Homecoming- have a trailer and truck provided for the students and teachers to ride on for the parade/ assist the teachers in coming up with a sign and decorations to go on the float that coordinates with the theme of homecoming/ decide what the students will wear/ make sure each child brings a bag of wrapped candy

Read Across America- work with the teachers to come up with a list of activities, snacks and readers for Read Across America day

Egg Hunt- find a place for the egg hunt and activities that will take place at the hunt/ find volunteers to help hide the eggs/ make sure students bring baskets and a dozen candy filled eggs/ coordinate a date and travel with Campus School teachers

Teacher Appreciation- plan ways to show the teachers at CS how much we appreciate them the week of Teacher Appreciation Week in May

Party Chairmen (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s, Easter)- Make sure there are people to bring cupcakes, drinks, chips/dip, and treat bags for each party as a minimum/ plan any fun activities to go along with the party/holiday (optional) 

Dance and Gym reminders

Good morning, 

We had a great response to dance and gymnastics registration. We are very excited to see all of your little ones as they participate each week and learn new things. 

Please remember that ALL girls MUST have dance attire to wear for practice each week. If you would like to purchase the dance package from CMA, let me know so we can send the order in by tomorrow morning. The package includes leotard, tights, ballet shoes, and dance bag for $75.00.  If you do not want to purchase the dance package offered by CMA, Mrs. Angie and Mrs. Haley recommended Walmart and Little People, OR the packages can be ordered online. If you are interested in ordering online, Mrs. Angie will be giving some suggestions, and I will send them to you. Girls should have leotards, tights, and ballet shoes for practice. If  you have any questions, please let me know. I will be happy to help you. 

Also, please note that all dance tuition is due by the 1st of the month or a $25.00 late fee will be added to your account if not paid by the 10th. Tuition for girls is $65.00 per month and boys is $45.00 per month. Tuition can be paid by cash or check and placed in the gray box on the wall above our lunchbox shelves. Please mark the envelope with the child's name and what the payment is for if paying with cash.
