We learned about Libby Hankins' road to new lungs this week.
Some of you are already familiar with Lungs for Libby for Libby Hankins who is a 22 year old senior at The University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama, where she is majoring in special education. She is also a member of Phi Mu, a UWA ambassador, and the 2015-16 cheerleading captain. Libby was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at age two and was treated at Children's Hospital of Alabama and later UAB hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. In February of 2016 she was sent to Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, where she was waiting for a double lung transplant. Recently, Libby was blessed with her “new” lungs.
A COTA account was created to raise funds for her ever-rising medical bills which could reach $500,000. This week we have been learning through Libby’s words what CF is and how it affected her daily life as well as others. After watching her video, each class made cards, and we would like to participate in the fundraising effort as well. We believe strongly at the Campus School in supporting one another and reaching out to those in need in our community and especially in our UWA Family. We decided to have Dollars for Libby and help raise funds for her new lungs. We raised $80!!!
And what better way to learn about CF than from Libby herself?!
We watched her YouTube video about how she lives with CF everyday...
And we made cards to mail with the donations we raised :)
Such sweet messages from their precious hearts!!! <3

We learned this week that reducing waste is when you avoid making garbage in the first place, you don't have to worry about disposing of waste or recycling it later.
And to recycle means to use something again.
And to recycle means to use something again.
For our recycling unit, the big hit was the pizza parlor! #happyclassrooms
The students loved making pizzas and we will be making our own pizza soon, so stay tuned!
They had all the toppings needed!
And nametags!
And a recycled pizza oven!
And a recycled pizza box!
And a recycled cup holder and cups from the block center!
Plates, utensils, and a pizza spatula.
The customers had a menu to decide what they would like.
And the waiters and waitresses could write their orders down to give to the chefs.
They could take phone orders, as well.
We had our spring Open House and Dr. Minear's students prepared booths about recycling for visitors to see the kinds of activities we do here at the Campus School. The students really enjoyed it and the college students did a great job!
We watched Daniel Tiger Big Brother and ate popcorn.
We can't wait to go back!!!
We celebrated 2 teacher birthdays this week!
Happy birthday to Ms. Byrne!!!
And happy birthday to Ms. Alison!!!
